ASCO MOVES AND GROOVES. Along with Luxottica, the Allergen Foundation recently awarded a competitive Focus Grant to the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) to support ASCO’s initiative to raise awareness of its Be a Doctor of Optometry: Put Your Future in Focus video, which can be viewed on ASCO’s YouTube channel and at opted.org. Also, ASCO recently launched its online Optometry Resident Directory, sponsored by Alcon. The directory can be found at odresidents.com. HAAG-STREIT LENDS A HAND TO ORBIS. Continuing the effort to help eliminate avoidable blindness worldwide, Haag-Streit has announced that it’s donating a BQ900 table model slit lamp with IM900 Imaging System, Eyesuite software and monitor, along with a Reliance 1490 adjustable-height power table to ORBIS, who will use the donations to train local ECPs on its Flying Eye Hospital (FEH). EYECARE PRO STAYS ON COURSE. Starting July 16, the second annual CEing is Believing brings continuing education and COPE-approved courses to participants as a virtual education conference and exhibition. In a virtual setting, the event focuses on the clinical side of optometric practice and offers ECPs an opportunity for global networking. AOA SUPPORTS CAREER GROWTH. The American Optometric Association (AOA) recently kicked off the Paraoptometric Skill Builder Training Program through its Paraoptometric Resource Center. The program includes three audio CDs, which employ several 20-minute units covering a range of topics to help train optometric staff run an office and work with patients. The program is supported by an education grant from Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., and AOA member ECPs may enroll their staff as AOA associate members at no charge.
