In recent news from Bausch + Lomb, the company introduced two new products – over-the-counter redness eye drop Lumify and PreserVision AREDS 2 Formula Chewable Vitamins in a mixed berry flavor, and the company received FDA approval for the Ultra family of contact lenses.
In clinical trials, Lumify low-dose brimonidine tartrate (brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution 0.025%) eye drops for the treatment of eye redness demonstrated a strong safety and efficacy profile with low risk for rebound redness and 95% symptom improvement seen at one minute and lasting up to eight hours, the company reported.
Available at major retailers nationwide, Lumify is an alpha-2 (α2)-adrenergic receptor (AR) agonist with a unique method of action that selectively constricts venules while maintaining the availability of oxygen to surrounding tissue. Six clinical studies were conducted in over 600 patients to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Lumify, including studies with both pediatric and geriatric subjects. The strong efficacy and safety profile of Lumify includes not only significant redness reduction for up to eight hours but a low risk of allergic reactions among all patient groups.
Bausch + Lomb also introduced PreserVision AREDS 2 Formula Chewable vitamins in a mixed berry flavor. Designed to meet the growing consumer preference for chewable tablets, PreserVision AREDS 2 Formula vitamins contain the exact levels of six key nutrients recommended by the National Eye Institue.
In other news from B+L, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the Bausch + Lomb Ultra family of contact lenses for extended wear for up to seven days between removals for cleaning and disinfection or disposal of the lens. Introduced in the U.S. in 2014, Bausch + Lomb Ultra features MoistureSeal technology, a patented combination of material and manufacturing that helps maintain 95% of lens moisture for 16 hours.
The family of contact lenses features polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) for enhanced wettability, a high Dk/t (163) and low modulus (70). The Bausch + Lomb Ultra family of contact lenses are also available for patients with astigmatism and presbyopia.
